Our Origin Story

A company decades in the making, forged in the cauldron of experience.

I didn’t learn about AI a few months ago or even a few years ago.
 
My journey began as a young consultant, with a fresh degree in AI from the university that literally invented AI. However, my real education came from the front lines of several of the biggest tech revolutions of the last 100 years.
 
I launched my career as a consultant during the dot-com boom, watching brilliant ideas get funded with millions one day and vaporize the next - crushed under the weight of multi-million dollar "transformation" projects that delivered little more than pretty PowerPoints. I pushed Internet frontiers, and then witnessed euphoria turn to ashes as hype outpaced reality.
 
Then came the mobile revolution. I left consulting and went to work for some of the most advanced mobile operators on earth (Orange, Virgin, Helio). Long before the iPhone, I was on the frontlines, pushing the envelope of how a device in your pocket could fundamentally change human behavior and create entirely new industries. At the same time, I watched the charlatans arrive, peddling "mobile-first" snake oil and locking companies into dead-end strategies that we on the inside knew were not remotely realistic or feasible.
 
Cycle after cycle, from Y2K panic to crypto crashes to SaaS overpromises to digital transformation debacles. Each time, the pattern is the same: a disruptive technology emerges, and clients experience a knowledge gap along with some consultant-induced FOMO. The consultants then rush in to exploit void with promises they are structurally incapable of keeping. The consulting business model literally depends on this cycle.
 

Each cycle follows the same arc: enthusiasm, overcommitment, disappointment, wasted budgets, and ruined careers.

 

The AI revolution is too important to be left to vendor opportunism and consultant self-interest. The potential is breathtaking, but the noise, the hype, the BS, and the sketchy ethics are deafening. I've been watching the same destructive patterns repeat, only now with more zeros on the invoices.

 

I've felt the frustration of wasted potential, and I've vowed to act.

After two decades as a consultant, an operator, an investor, and an entrepreneur, I have realized my most valuable skill wasn't only understanding technology but a deep appreciation of the business and human impact (along with an unmatched BS filter).

 

Vorpal Hedge is the culmination of a career spent on the front lines. 

 

It's the firm I needed when I was on the client side of the table – desperately seeking a consultant who would stop pontificating, listen, and simply deliver results.
